Leif Karpe (born in 1968) currently lives in Germany and Spain.

Extended travelling in Asia, in the Middle East and in Africa elicited his interest in documentary observation.

The encounter between different cultures is the main objective of his cinematic work. It is his personal claim to promote the dialogue and comprehension between different cultures by cinematic narration. Travel photography has had a great influence on his cinematographic style. His camera view is an observing one which every now and then captures the poetry of everyday life.

In 1994 Leif Karpe founded the production company Planet Pictures through which he realizes his own projects as an author and as a director. Besides documentaries Planet Pictures also produces books and radio plays.
